With the scaffolding coming off at the Meditation and Peace Center “Maharishi Peace Palace” in Erfurt, Germany, the facade that we see does the name justice – a modern day, ancient look palace. The ground floor outer walls were cast in one piece, including the ornaments, using a custom made rubber mold and natural expanded clay bubbles (liapor). They are load baring and self-insulating.

For the upper floor and interior walls conventional poroton (self-insulating clay bricks) were used, as still can be seen in the center of the facade, which will be plastered and finished from the front porch roof. The pillars for the front porch are currently being cast using a mixture of Italian marble of different grain sizes and white cement in another ornamental mold.

Let’s hope we see this building all finished soon!

Accompany Jon Lipman as he interviews the builder and tours this amazing 200 sf (20sqm) prototype home, recently completed and featured in an an open house in Fairfield, IA USA.

The all wood building has been designed and built according to the principles of Maharishi Vastu architecture, it just awaits a loving new owner and suitable site to complete. It was designed and built by Christian Hoffman, (with the masterful assistance of his father Eric), as a directed study course for his Sustainable living degree at Maharishi University of Management.

Christian is enthusiastic to build many, many more of these. They can be taken by trailer to locations far and wide and can be customized to suit the owner. Visit his website at: www.vastucabin.com for more details and to be in touch with Christian.

PS… the loft/sleeping area adds an additional 60 SF to the overall size of the house!

WHO-TV News from Des Moines, IA reports on the newly completed Sustainable Living Center at Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield, Iowa, USA.

Sustainable Living Professor Lonnie Gamble says that the building is self sustaining in its functioning just like a tree. The building is a living laboratory of classrooms, workshops and offices for the Sustainable Living Program.

Maharishi Vastu architect Jon Lipman explains the unique ways in which daylight is captured and used in the building.

This newest Maharishi Vastu building has realized the slogan “going beyond green” by not only integrating the most green, sustainable principles, and taking them further than any other educational facility ever has, but it’s very design being in harmony with all the most fundamental Laws of Nature, as described in Vedic Architecture, give the term sustainability a completely new dimension.

Pre-cast, all natural, self-insulating, liapor (popped clay) outside wall elements go up 15 minutes per panel at the construction site of the Maharishi Vastu Peace Palace in Erfurt, Germany

In this video young British architect Jonathon Phillips reports on the MERU Master Builder System as it just has been implemented in the city of Erfurt in Germany on the construction site of a Maharishi Vastu seminar center that will be offering enlightenment and peace creating programs such as the Transcendental Meditation technique.

The pre-cast, all natural, self-insulating, liapor (popped clay) outside wall elements go up 15 minutes per panel. They have been developed by architect Christian Schweizer at MERU, Holland and are also known as the MERU Master Builder System. Traditional Vedic pilasters, arches, entablature, pinth and ornaments are part of the mold and therefore cast as part of the wall panel. No decorating necessary later (when usually the funds are up anyway), but all is there in the most efficient and most lasting way right from the beginning.

A slide show of another example of this construction system is available here.
